Five rules for client birthday messages

Send it in the morning
A message at 8am reads as thoughtful. One at 11pm reads as an afterthought.
Use one real detail
Their name, plus one thing you remember: a trip, a new job, a child's name. That's what separates you from the bank's automated SMS.
Don't sell
No product, no link, no 'by the way, your review is due'. A birthday message with a pitch at the end is a sales message. If a review is due, send that on another day.
Send it one by one
Not a broadcast list. Clients can tell, and a broadcast also needs them to have saved your number.
Keep it short
Two or three lines on WhatsApp. They'll read every word of a short message and skim a long one.

Never miss a client's birthday

AdvisorKin keeps every client's birthday, and their family's, with your notes. Each morning the Today screen shows whose birthday it is, with a message drafted in the way that client likes to be spoken to. Copy, paste into WhatsApp, send.

Questions advisors ask

What should I write in a birthday message to a client?
Keep it to two or three lines: their name, a warm wish, and one detail you remember about them, like a trip they're planning or how many years you've known each other. Leave out anything about policies or products.
Should I mention insurance in a birthday message?
No. A birthday message that ends with a pitch or a reminder about a review stops being a birthday message. If something is due, send it on a different day.
What is a short, professional birthday wish for a client?
"Happy birthday, [Name]! Wishing you a healthy and happy year ahead." It's short, warm and works for any client. Add one detail you remember to make it personal.
When should I send a client's birthday message?
In the morning of their birthday. If you miss it, a short belated message the next day is better than nothing.
WhatsApp, card or call?
WhatsApp suits most clients in Singapore. A call works for long-time clients you're close to. A card is a nice touch for milestone birthdays, but check your company's rules before sending any gift with it.
How do I remember all my clients' birthdays?
Keep them with each client's notes rather than in a separate calendar, so you see the birthday next to what they told you. AdvisorKin does this for you and lists the day's birthdays on your Today screen, with a message drafted in each client's style.
